Is the embroidery machine-done?

No — sozni cannot be machined convincingly; the stitch is too small and dense. Ours is hand-needled in Srinagar and the craft note names the workshop.

How durable is sozni embroidery?

Extremely — the stitches lie flat within the cloth's surface, with no loops to catch. Sozni shawls a century old survive with needlework intact.

The base is 100% Changthangi pashmina, GI-certified, handwoven in Srinagar; the sozni border alone is four to six weeks of a karigar's needle. The hashiya is where sozni collecting traditionally begins.
